Defining Professionalism In The Green Industry
The Washington Association of Landscape Professionals was founded in 1984 by a group of landscape professionals who wanted to define professionalism, develop educational program, and evoke legislative representation on the issues pertinent to the landscape industry.
Established in 1984, the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals (WALP) is a non-profit organization of landscape professionals dedicated to providing opportunities that promote professionalism, integrity, and education to a thriving membership within the Green Industry and the communities served.

Strategic Plan Key Initiatives
- Professional Development/Education: To offer professional and technical seminar programs and learning opportunities that make our members more successful.
- Membership: To create and sustain a membership level sufficient to drive the success of the organization and create value that makes WALP membership necessary for their success.
- Events & Member Interaction: To develop significant opportunities for members to interact at the chapter and state levels to help build beneficial professional relationships.
- Communications (Public & Internal): To build a network of member-to-member communications channels, build effective internal communications, and communicate the value of our members’ services to the public.
- Government Relations/Advocacy: To influence public policy decisions that directly impact the business climate for our members.
- Governance: To create a system of governance that best supports the goals and objectives of the organization, involves members in the decision-making process, and assures the integrity of the organization.
- Administration: To build a responsive, efficient, and effective management system that assures the decisions of the Board are implemented and quality customer service is provided.
